Trying to make ends meet (Trying?!!)

A bleeding heart front-page “Lincoln Journal Star” article (November 26, 2006) wants me to feel sorry for a family of four as they struggle to make it on $625 per month this Christmas season. http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2006/11/26/top_story/doc4568d1cf47bce683533976.txt

Okay, here it goes… Oh boo hoo hoo and 1-800-WAAH!!!!

This front-page article depicts a father, Mark Chekal, and son walking back home with a full bag of free groceries provided by the Food Bank of Lincoln. As they walk, Mr. Chekal wears a huge smile as he follows his son carrying the bag and listening to his mp3 music player. Yes, mp3 music player!! A must have for all families making $7,500 per year. More pictures depict this family with multiple pets living in a clean and well-furnished home and enjoying multiple deserts.

Mark and Serena Chekal both appear to be healthy, young, and more than able to work. Yet, the LJS wants me to feel sorry for them and the other “victims” living off taxes and donations. I have to admit, I do feel sorry for them as these two adults are pathetic and should feel humiliated by allowing the LJS to make them out to be poster children for Nebraska’s poor. It's sad to think the legitimate poor and homeless in Nebraska, those unable to work or make ends meet due to a physical disability or a mental illness, can only hope to be as blessed and fortunate as the Chekals.

I do have a heart and want to help those that can’t help themselves. But why should we continue to enable those that keep taking and taking and REFUSE to pull themselves up by their bootstraps? For gosh sakes, my sixteen year-old son made $6,000 last year working part-time, going to school, and playing high school sports!! I can’t imagine being a grown man or woman and not working to provide for my kids. But I’m sure the Chekals have all sorts of excuses why they don’t provide (more like will not). First and foremost no doubt is a reluctance to say goodbye to the numerous liberal government programs, the GREAT ENABLER of this “victim” society.

Nice try LJS.
